Krall not right venue
I recognized how amazing instrumentalists they are, but one drum solo and one bass solo for the entire concert would have been adequate. From my seat in the nosebleed section, I could not see the expressions on the faces of the musicians or hear her between-songs banter. I also have to acknowledge that the spotlighting of each musician with a solo riff in nearly every song put me off. I would have enjoyed this concert more in a smaller venue while Lloyd Maines and his combo are excellent musicians and performed well. This was a good lesson to learn, and going forward, I will try to see jazz musicians in clubs, not large halls. I think piano and guitar are more conducive to solos, nothing against those instruments. The awkward applause associated with each solo detracted from the music's enjoyment. I know that jazz, by its definition, means improvisation, but to me, it was excessive and detracted from some of the wonderful songs they performed.
